"Collage" Custom Rug Collection

The advent of COVID19 brought about a significant change in the lives of many artists, particularly their ability to remain creative and connected with the world. 

 

Artist Jody Levinson realized that she was now at a standstill in terms of her painting.  She agonized over the direction to take her work knowing that much of her audience were now isolated at home and that her gallerist was forced to lower its blinds indefinitely - with no prospects of an exhibition of her art. 

 

Taking hold of her creative ingenuity Jody set out to reinvent herself and expand her online presence as a means of staying connected with other creative minds.  Responding with characteristic brilliance, she began experimenting with collage art.  Opening boxes and boxes of handmade papers, cutting out pages from magazines and other publications, gathering organic materials, including braided twine and fabrics, and reviving her stored away writings and doodles.   With each posting on social media, a growing audience could view Jody’s ever-expanding and brilliant collages. 

 

Cut to the immediate future and a chance meeting with a carpet dealer with whom she shared her collage art.  Recognizing the elegant and undeniable artistry of her creations, this dealer took no time in suggesting that Jody reproduce her collages on hand-made, one-of-kind rugs.  Thus began her collaboration with SAFAR Hand Made Rugs and founder Shiraz Ansari.
